I subscribe to Flylady.net (Marla Cilley). She is the Queen of routines and keeping our houses clean by minimizing our clutter. In a recent post, she likened keeping clutter to planting seeds in “what had been soil” and “what could have been soil.” When instead, we should be sowing seeds in the “here and now soil” we are living in by keeping the items that are useful or have meaning to us now. She talks about how clutter, mostly physical clutter, affects our lives. I’ve been following the wisdom that God has given to her for more than 20 years and I still have areas of physical clutter in my life! I’ve gotten rid of a lot, but I’ve brought in a lot too! Physical clutter drains me of creativity, spontaneity, and confidence. But I’m getting away from what I was wanting to say about her post.
Get out of the Past
God doesn’t want us to dwell in our past. Sowing seeds of what could have or should have happened. When we dwell there, we plant seeds of resentment in “what had been soil.” (If only I hadn’t quit that job. If only I didn’t have to raise my grandkids. If only I had taken a right instead of a left.) Instead, we should be planting seeds in the “here and now soil” The soil that we are living in now. If it is fallow and dry, then we need to work that soil so it can become healthy again. Take a look around and see what needs to be done. Have you prayed recently? Have you spent time in worship recently? How about reading your bible? All of these things will lend to breaking up the fallow ground and helping you to plant seeds in the here and now soil.
The here and now
Being thankful for the people and the things in our lives are the seeds we want to sow in the here and now. Not going back and regretting anything or anyone. Leave those things in the past. Let that garden die. We have a new one. Amazing things happen when we allow ourselves to see the good around us. That my husband works hard for us. That my grandkids are really good people. That my house is nice. I don’t think we have to train ourselves to find the good, it’s there. We just have to be willing to see it. Accept it. And be thankful for it. Then you will find yourself watering your here and now soil and watching it grow. That’s the Good News!
The Ultimate Good News
Of course, the ultimate Good News is that Jesus died for us and rose again! He took our sin and nailed it to the cross. He did this so we could have eternal life with Him and the Father. The whole reason we were made. Let us not miss this Good News! I challenge you today to give your life to Him. It’s not hard, just pray from your heart “Jesus, I believe you died for me and rose again. I pray that you would come into my heart and take over my life” Start reading your bible and find yourself a good bible believing church. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life.
